Former Florida Gator football player Tony Joiner sentenced to 25 years for murdering his girlfriend
Tony Joiner was a former Florida Gators captain on their football team. He was a hard hitting safety with big play making ability. The former Gator now will be spending the next 25 years of his life in prison after he was found guilty of one count of second degree murder.
Joiner was arrested back in 2019, for a crime that happened back in 2016. His girlfriend, Heyzel Obando, was found shot to death in her Fort Myers apartment.
Joiner reportedly called 911 and said he discovered her, bleeding and unresponsive.
A major source of evidence came from phone records retrieved from the defendant’s cell phone. As more information was uncovered surrounding the crime, an arrest warrant was issued for Joiner.
Joiner was arrested in Lake Wales, in central Florida, with the assistance of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and Lake Wales Police Department.
