BREAKING: Patriots cut CB Stephon Gilmore
Wow, Stephon Gilmore has been released by the New England Patriots.
Patriots have decided to cut Gilmore rather than trade him. Gilmore has spent the season already on the PUP list.
The former Defensive Player of the Year has dealt with a quad injury. Gilmore’s contract called for just over $7 million in base salary this season after the Patriots moved up $4.5 million last year during training camp to appease the corner. That cash figure ranks 24th among all corners in 2021, per Over The Cap.
The 31 year old is banged up but he will have tons of teams lining up for his services. Do not be surprised if a team like the Buccaneers jump on him. Imagine Richard Sherman and Stephon Gilmore on the same team that just won the Super Bowl.
