What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?
Honestly I’ve played almost every sport since I was 5. I played football, soccer and basketball then I stopped soccer then it was just football and basketball stopped basketball in the 5th grade and that’s when I knew I wanted to be a football player.
What are your favorite moments from your football life?
Playing in the SEC and BIG10 was a big accomplishment you know being from St Louis, Mo all I ever wanted was a chance to show my skills. Going 11-3 at UNLV going to MW Championships back to back years winning multiple bowl games and ultimately just being the first in my family with St John to graduate from college and go to college on a free scholarship! Also beating Texas in 2021 at Arkansas never I will never forget that greatest day ever.
What are you looking to achieve as a football player going forward?
Honestly I want to show all the agents, GM’s and scouts that film doesn’t lie and to let them know that I am a ball player! I want to be one of the best offensive linemen in the league by year 2 or 3! I just want to show that I am capable of playing all 5 spots and that I’m willing to do whatever it takes to win for my team! Lastly I just want to make the man above proud and my family proud!
If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day, who and why?
Larry Allen, we play the same position you know I watched him a lot and I just want to pick his brain see how and why he does certain things and just learn the game a little bit more from him.
Which one of your family members inspires you the most and why?
Both of my parents, mom and dad, they sacrificed a lot for me to get here. You know everything wasn’t always peaches and cream. They never gave up on me honestly they still believe in me, you know I’m just blessed and grateful to have those two without them there’s no me, so shout out to them.
What is your favorite offensive scheme and why?
You know honestly I love the zone blocking scheme because it shows how good the unit is because if one person is slacking the scheme won’t work. It focuses on angles and gets defenders moving sideways easy for offensive linemen because we can just take them wherever they are trying to go. Also love pass protection.
What should we know about Jalen St.John the person?
Jalen St John is a person who has grown over the years I feel like every year I get better and better. You know I feel like I’m a great leader, very coachable wants understand why and how I lost and how to fix it in practice. A guy who is going to make the room laugh when need be and bottom line a man of faith you know I’m just another human using my ability that the lord gave me. Lastly I’m a guy who is willing to be uncomfortable to win I know everything won’t be easy but I promise you #74 will give his all every snap day in and day out.
What stands out about your film the most?
The movement at the point of attack, the movement on the double teams, the vision to know what coming in pass protection and honestly just doing my job you know getting the job done making sure my man doesn’t affect the play and make sure I beat my man more than he beats me because at the end of the day it’s a battle your either going to lose your battle or win your battle!
How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?
I talk to the Lord, the man above is going to help me with any challenge the Bible says don’t be afraid almost 100 times so I just leave it up to the man above and do my best at my part with my head held high ready to see what’s the next challenge I have to take on because I’m not running or backing down from anything.
What would a team get in a player like you?
A team is getting a great leader, very coachable. A winner who hasn’t lost many games in my career. A player who can play multiple positions. A man of faith and ultimately a player who is going to come in work day in and day out. Also the most important thing a player who will protect the QB!
What do you love the most about the game of football?
Football is my life without it I don’t know what I would be doing now. I love the thrill on game days, the grind the fans don’t see and ultimately I just love everything about the game how could you hate mashing another man’s face in the dirt without getting in trouble for it that’s amazing.
Who is the most underrated player you’ve played with and why?
Martez Poynter, DT from Toledo, also from St.Louis, Mo. I’ve been watching him grind everyday since high school, he wasn’t very highly recruited like me and others guys from our high school but to see him go to Toledo and ball out like he did it made me proud because we all knew he was good but sometimes the politics play a big role and he understood that and went to college and dominated this past season every year I feel he got better and better just making the most out of his opportunity! I feel like he’s top 10 DT in this years draft!
