Pittman’s Pocket: HBCU CFL Prospects 2026 Draft

2026 CFL Draft – Combine Evaluation & Team Fit Analysis
The CFL Combine presented by Anytime Fitness once again highlighted a limited but intriguing group of HBCU prospects emerging from the international/combine pathway. While the volume of HBCU representation remains small, the quality, positional versatility, and CFL-specific traits of this group provide legitimate draft value across multiple rounds.
This report identifies four priority HBCU prospects who demonstrated measurable traits and projectable roles within CFL systems, with an emphasis on scheme fit, roster construction, and special teams impact.
🔵 CAMERON MICHAUD
DL | Bluefield State Big Blue Football
Projected Round: 2
Evaluation: Michaud profiles as the top HBCU trench prospect in this class. At 6’5”, 264 pounds, he offers prototypical length and frame density for CFL defensive fronts. His testing numbers confirm adequate movement skills for a rotational defensive lineman with upside in sub-packages.
CFL Translation: Fits both 3-man and hybrid defensive fronts. Effective as a 5-technique or interior disruptor. Length creates passing lane disruption and leverage advantages
Team Fit: Winnipeg Blue Bombers
Winnipeg’s defensive philosophy prioritizes rotational depth and versatility along the line. Michaud projects as an early contributor with starting upside, particularly in pass-rush packages.
🟢 JAXSON ISAAC
FB/TE | Arkansas–Pine Bluff Golden Lions football
Projected Round: 3
Evaluation: Isaac brings positional versatility and size (6’5”, 236), making him an ideal candidate for the evolving CFL offensive landscape. His athletic profile supports usage as a move tight end, H-back, and special teams contributor.
CFL Translation: Motion-based TE/H-back hybrid, Immediate core special teams value, Red-zone mismatch due to size and alignment flexibility
Team Fit: Saskatchewan Roughriders
Saskatchewan’s offense benefits from multiplicity and motion, making Isaac a strong schematic fit. He provides roster flexibility while contributing in multiple phases.
🔴 DYLAN DJETÉ
WR | Alabama State Hornets football
Projected Round: 3–4
Evaluation: Djeté offers the most immediate offensive impact among HBCU prospects in this class. His 4.60 speed and compact frame align well with CFL motion and spacing concepts, particularly in the slot.
CFL Translation: Motion slot receiver (waggle system), Return specialist upside, Quick acceleration translates to yard-after-catch production
Team Fit: Montreal Alouettes
Montreal’s offensive identity—built on speed, tempo, and pre-snap motion—positions Djeté as a plug-and-play contributor with special teams value.
🔴 BARRON MILES JR.
WR | Grambling State Tigers football
Projected Round: 5
Evaluation: Miles projects as a possession receiver with strong situational awareness. While his top-end speed is average, his route discipline and football IQ provide value in structured offensive systems.
CFL Translation: Reliable short-to-intermediate target, Contributes on special teams coverage units, Depth receiver with situational reliability
Team Fit: Calgary Stampeders
Calgary has historically emphasized route precision and system discipline. Miles fits as a developmental receiver with the ability to contribute in rotational packages.
