Dallas Renegades led by Austin Reed terrorize the Gamblers

The Dallas Renegades made a loud statement to open the 2026 United Football League season, dominating the Houston Gamblers 36–17 in the highly anticipated “Battle of Texas” on Saturday night.
From the opening whistle, Dallas set the tone with aggressive, opportunistic football. The turning point came early when the Renegades capitalized on a Houston mistake, returning an interception for a pick-six the first defensive touchdown of the UFL season. That play ignited a first-half surge that saw Dallas build a commanding 23–3 lead by halftime.
At the center of it all was quarterback Austin Reed, who delivered a historic debut performance. Reed showcased poise, arm strength, and precision throughout the night, ultimately setting a new UFL regular-season single-game record with 376 passing yards. His command of the offense was evident, as he consistently dissected the Gamblers’ defense and kept the chains moving.
If there were any doubts about Dallas easing up in the second half, they were erased immediately. On the very first play of the third quarter, Reed connected on a stunning 66-yard touchdown pass, extending the Renegades’ lead and effectively putting the game out of reach.
To their credit, Houston continued to fight. Quarterback Hunter Dekkers helped spark the offense late, including a rushing touchdown that gave Gamblers fans something to cheer about. However, the early deficit proved too much to overcome, as Dallas maintained control from start to finish.
While the on-field product delivered excitement, the turnout told a different story. The official attendance at Toyota Stadium was announced at just 8,870, an underwhelming figure for a season opener and a rivalry matchup of this magnitude. The good thing is the stadium only holds around 11k fans. Despite the smaller crowd, the Renegades gave their home fans plenty to celebrate with a performance that could set the tone for their season.
With a dominant win, a record-breaking quarterback debut, and momentum firmly on their side, the Renegades have quickly positioned themselves as a team to watch in the UFL.
