What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?
I’ve been playing football since I was six years old, so my mom put me in football when I was a little kid and then I fell in love with it from the very beginning and I knew it was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
What are your favorite moments from your football life?
I’ll say making the football team at Texas Tech as a walk-on. I tried out for the team so making the team was huge. Getting moved up to varsity my sophomore year of high school was a really cool moment for me too. And then winning the big 12 championship this past year is up there. Out of those three they’re interchangeable for number one. The Big 12 football championship was really special. As well as making All Big 12 this year, that was the first time I ever got any accolades including high school or just growing up so that was really special to me too.
If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day, who and why?
I’d have to say Luke Kuechly. Just because his mind is so amazing when it comes to the game of football. I’d love to pick his brain and just understand how he processes things. I’d love to figure out what got him to be the great that he was. And like I said just to pick his brain you know what I’m saying, I feel like if he’s not the smartest linebacker, he’s one of the smartest linebackers to ever play the game and along with being smart, he is one of the best linebackers when it comes to cover skills, when it comes to physicality and in the run game he has a full package. So, I would love to just spend a day with him just picking his brain.
What is your favorite defensive scheme and why?
I’d say I like a 3-4 scheme. And I say I like a 3-4 scheme because and I liked it the way that we ran it at Texas Tech because it gives you a true nose guard and that fourth linebacker he’s a edge player, so it kind of essentially turns into looking more like the way we ran that at Tech looking more like a 4-3, really looked more like a 4-2 because our other linebacker was more of a nickel than an in the box linebacker but the way you’re in it I enjoy a 3-4 defense. It allows you to be in the box. It allows the box to be gapped out. And it allows you in different scenarios to blitz the gap, force fits. I like the freedom that gives you as a linebacker.
What stands out about your film the most?
My special teams ability. I feel like I play with high effort on special teams. I feel like this is rare to find, especially with a guy that’s my age, and I feel like my physicality sticks out alot as well when it comes to getting off of blocks. I’m very strong. I feel like that shows up on film as well and I’m able to easily get off blocks like I’m not fearing for contact at all and once more again special teams for sure I show up being on special teams and I flash on my special teams if you just watch every game.
What should we know about Bryce Ramirez the person?
Bryce Ramirez the person first and foremost. I’m a huge believer in Jesus Christ; he’s my Lord and Savior that carries me and in everything that I do in life. Secondly, I love my wife with everything in me. She’s the second most important person in my life when it comes outside of Jesus Christ, she comes second and then the third for that is football. Those are the three biggest pillars in my life. I want to be around the game of football no matter what if it’s not playing in the NFL then I want to be a coach. I love football with everything and you know again I’m a firm believer in Jesus Christ and I love my wife.
What do you love the most about the game of football?
I love the schematics of it. I love how it’s not as simple as the game where you just turn on the TV and see. There are several ins and outs of it and I love the little things about it. I love that during pre-snap you can get as a linebacker, you can get run or pass by just looking at a guard or a tackle and see if he’s given away run or pass or I like the schematics of that third and five on third and five if it’s knowing the down and distance on third and five. If you’re on the plus side or minus side what you’re gonna get from the offense because if you’re on the plus side they have a higher chance of running the ball. If you’re on the minus side, they’re going to be throwing the ball on third and five so just the little things of football like those details I feel like it makes it such a beautiful game that just your average fan watching won’t really pay attention. It’s so huge for me and I love that about it and I also love the impact you can make on people through the platform you’re given and the amount of different people you can meet. That’s why I love this game so much. I’ve met so many wonderful people, so many amazing people and built great relationships throughout my time playing football and I look forward to building more and more.
Who is the most underrated player you’ve played with and why?
I feel like the most underrated player I played with is John Curry. I feel like he was overshadowed and not even talked about when it comes to our defense last year. He was great. He’s going to be a great player. I feel like he’s going to play football for a very long time. He has all the physical abilities as well as the mental ability. The guy is really smart, and He could play in coverage, he’s physical in the run game and he knows ho to punch the ball out. He’s been a core four player on special teams, and I feel like he’s going to show up again just like he showed up last year on film of how great of a player he is. Cole Wisniewski as well, he’s another underrated player.
