The HCU Huskies football team will close out the 2025 season this Saturday at home at Husky Field for Military Appreciation Day and Senior Day, taking on UIW at 2:00 p.m. 

For the Huskies, Redshirt Senior quarterback Maddox Kopp closes out his collegiate career in Houston. Kopp played at near by St. Thomas High School. While with the Eagles, he was was a two-year started. He completed 196-of-328 passes for 3,134 yards as a senior with 30 touchdowns and just four interceptions. He threw for 6,334 yards with 59 touchdowns and 18 interceptions over the course of his high school career.  Kopp will look to find Redshirt Junior wide receiver Keith Wheeler. Last week against East Texas A&M, the Trinity Valley Community College transfer had 4 receptions for 38 yards and 1 touchdown. The Huskies offense looks to set records. Redshirt Freshman Running back Xai’Shaun Edwards has a chance to become the program’s first-ever 1,000 yard rusher. Edwards, one of 22 FCS freshmen named to the 2025 Jerry Rice Award Watch List, rushed for 95 yards last Saturday to bring his single-season record total to 979. He stands just 21 rushing yards away from becoming the program’s first-ever 1,000-yard rusher. The League City, Texas native ranks 14th nationally in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns (12) while his 118.09 all-purpose yards per game is 17th among all FCS players. History can be made. 

The same can be said on the defensive side of the ball. Redshirt Senior linebacker Rodney Dansby from near by Bellaire High School made a name for himself during his collegiate career. Coming into the game, the linebacker ranking second in program history with 433 career tackles, just 34 shy of record holder Garrett Dolan. Junior safety  Jayven Anderson also will be looking to close out a solid 2025 campaign. The North Shore High School alum made plays last week against East Texas A&M having one sack and one interception. The Huskies defense will look to pick apart the Cardinals. 

For the UIW Cardinals football team, the season has been one of ups and downs. A top ranked team coming into the season, the Cardinals have stumbled along the way. 

Redshirt freshman EJ Colson is completing 70.95 percent (210-of-296) of his passes with 16 touchdowns to just four interceptions while also rushing for 287 yards. Senior receiver Jalen Walthall is second in the league in receiving yards per game, averaging 90.9 yards per outing, while hauling in seven touchdowns. Graduate Student tight end Logan Compton, the Tomball High School alum will look to find the end zone as he closes out his collegiate career. 

Defensively, linebackers Declan Williams and Dune Smith have combined for 183 tackles this season with Williams registering 12 tackles for loss and four sacks. 

HCU will honor its seniors in a ceremony on the field beginning 30 minutes prior to kickoff.
