FBI Links Former Kentucky Football Player to NBA Gambling Investigation

Former Kentucky football player De’Niro Laster was among more than 30 individuals arrested Thursday as part of an FBI investigation into illegal gambling tied to the NBA.
According to an indictment obtained by The New York Times, Laster allegedly acted as an intermediary in a betting scheme involving then-Charlotte Hornets guard Terry Rozier.
Prosecutors claim Laster passed along inside information to bettors after Rozier disclosed that he intended to exit a March 2023 matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans early — despite not being listed on the Hornets’ injury report.
Laster, who played linebacker for the Wildcats from 2015 to 2016, and Rozier, who starred at Louisville from 2013 to 2015, both hail from Cleveland and attended the same high school. Authorities emphasized that none of the charges are connected to their time as college athletes in Kentucky.
