Vikings legendary RB Adrian Peterson arrested for DWI

Former NFL star Adrian Peterson has once again found himself in legal trouble. The legendary running back was arrested Sunday morning in Sugar Land, Texas, on charges of driving while intoxicated and unlawful carrying of a weapon, according to TMZ Sports.
According to online jail records, the 39-year-old was taken into custody around 10 a.m. local time and booked on both charges. This marks Peterson’s second DWI arrest in 2025. The first occurred in Minnesota back in April following the Vikings’ draft day celebration, when authorities said they clocked him driving 83 mph in a 55 mph zone shortly after 3 a.m. Police reports from that incident stated that Peterson’s blood alcohol content registered at .14%, nearly twice the legal limit of .08 in Minnesota.
Peterson, one of the most accomplished running backs in NFL history, played 15 seasons for seven different teams, though he is best remembered for his dominant years with the Minnesota Vikings. Over his career, he earned an MVP award in 2012, made seven Pro Bowls, and ranks among the league’s all-time rushing leaders.
Born and raised in Palestine, Texas — a small town roughly three hours north of Sugar Land — Peterson’s recent legal troubles mark another difficult chapter in the life of a player whose on-field greatness has often been overshadowed by off-field controversies.
