Michigan Wins Season Opener as NCAA Investigation Details Emerge

The University of Michigan football team opened its season Saturday with a 34-17 win over New Mexico, just two weeks after the NCAA handed the school heavy fines for its sign-stealing scandal. Michigan has already said it will appeal the ruling.

In a 79-page report, the NCAA shared new details about the case:

  • A student-athlete admitted to lying about former linebackers coach Chris Partridge, claiming Partridge told players not to cooperate with investigators. Partridge was fired in November 2023 but was not penalized by the NCAA.
  • That same student-athlete also recorded a phone call with Connor Stalions, the staffer at the center of the scandal. Stalions has now been given an eight-year show-cause penalty, essentially banning him from college football.
  • The NCAA said a Michigan campus source shared key information with a private investigation firm.

According to information obtained by CBS News Detroit, the student-athlete who lied about Partridge is the same person who recorded the call with Stalions. The private investigator also claims that this same individual was the “campus source” and is a former Michigan player.

The investigator further alleged that the ex-player took videos from Stalions’ personal computer without authorization and passed them to the investigation firm, which then turned them over to the NCAA within 24 hours.

I wonder if the NCAA will look into this matter further?
