Texas Tech cornerback Amier Boyd showed a stunning lack of judgment over the weekend, leading to his arrest on reckless driving charges in Lubbock.

According to an arrest affidavit, Boyd was taken into custody Sunday on the 2700 block of 3rd Street after police say they witnessed him doing donuts in the intersection of 3rd Street and Boston Avenue. Making matters worse, officers reported that a passenger was dangerously hanging out of the rear window while Boyd spun the vehicle.

The behavior, described by Texas law as driving “in willful or wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property,” is classified as a misdemeanor offense. If convicted, Boyd could face up to a $200 fine, up to 30 days in county jail, or both.

Police say Boyd’s vehicle was impounded, and he was transported to the Lubbock County Detention Center. The exact time of the arrest was not disclosed.

The incident raises questions about judgment and decision-making, especially for a young athlete representing his university. Instead of focusing on the season ahead, Boyd now finds himself facing legal consequences for reckless actions that could have easily led to injury for himself, his passengers, or others nearby.
