Former NFL Player Arrested on 18 counts of Fraud Charges

Police have arrested former NFL defensive back Darryl “Buster” Skrine in connection with what authorities describe as a large-scale financial fraud scheme.
Skrine, who spent 11 seasons in the NFL, was taken into custody Wednesday and charged with 18 counts tied to the investigation. Police said the 35-year-old has been accused of exploiting women he met through online dating platforms by fabricating stories about financial hardship. According to investigators, Skrine would persuade the women to give him money with promises to repay them through his NFL annuity, only to use the funds to maintain a “lavish lifestyle” that included luxury Airbnbs, travel, and gift cards.
The Roswell Police Department began its investigation in July after receiving a complaint from a woman who said she was being financially exploited by Skrine. Officials later identified at least three victims in Wisconsin, North Carolina, and New York.
This is not Skrine’s first run-in with the law. In August 2023, he was arrested in Canada for allegedly attempting to defraud banks of more than $100,000 through a check fraud scheme. He was later granted bond in April 2024 and placed on GPS monitoring, which he allegedly removed before fleeing back to the United States.
Authorities say Skrine now faces significant legal consequences as the investigation continues.
