Illinois Star High School Football Player Shot and Killed During After-Prom Party

Chicago is mourning the tragic loss of 17-year-old DeAngelo Miles, a standout football player and team captain at Hansberry College Prep, who was fatally shot just days after graduating high school.
According to police, Miles was attending an after-prom party with friends when the shooting occurred early Sunday morning. Authorities believe the incident may have been a robbery attempt that turned deadly, though the investigation remains ongoing.
The Chicago Police Department received a call around 3 a.m. about a person shot. When officers arrived at the scene, witnesses reported hearing gunfire and finding a teen unresponsive in a nearby alley. That teen was later identified as Miles, who had suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and police continue to search for suspects.
Miles was the oldest of five siblings. His mother, Kevina Fleming, expressed her heartbreak over the loss of her son, saying the silence in their home has made the grief even heavier.
“He was more than just a football player,” she shared. “He was our leader, our protector, and our light.”
Friends, coaches, and community members have taken to social media to honor Miles’ memory, remembering him as a talented athlete, a dedicated student, and a role model among his peers.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Chicago authorities.
