College Football Realignment
There’s a massive amount of teams on the move over the next couple of seasons with tons of realignment happening all over the NCAA. Hold onto your hats while I catch you up to speed with what’s going on.
FBS
- The ACC has gained 3 new members in Cal, SMU, and Stanford.
- The American Athletic Conference added the Army this season after being independent for 19 years.
- The Big 12 has added 4 members from the Pac-12 (Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado and Utah).
- The Big Ten has added 4 members from the Pac-12 (Oregon, UCLA, USC and Washington)
- With all departures from the Pac-12, the conference is only left 2 schools: Oregon State and Washington State.
- Conference USA has added Kennesaw State to the FCS ranks. They are also set to add Delaware and Missouri State in 2025.
- Oklahoma and Texas have joined the SEC.
- UMass will be joining the MAC in 2025.
FCS
- Bryant will begin playing in the CAA after playing in the Big South.
- Robert Morris returns to the NEC after playing in the Big South. The NEC has also added Mercyhurst to the D2 ranks.
- Merrimack and Sacred Heart will be playing as Independent in 2024.
- West Georgia joins the United Athletic Conference from the D2 ranks.
- Stephen F. Austin returns to the Southland Conference after playing in the UAC (WAC/ASUN) conferences over the past few seasons.
- Richmond is set to leave the CAA for the Patriot League in 2025.
- The UTRGV (University of Texas Rio Grande Valley) begin their first season of college football in 2025
Div II
- Sul Ross State moves up from the D3 ranks to play in the Lone Star Conference.
- Roosevelt University moves from the NAIA to D2 in the GLIAC.
Div III
- Ferrum College has accepted a bid to join the Conference Carolinas in Division II in 2025 which will also include teams such as Barton, Chowan, Erskine, UNC Pembroke, North Greenville and Shorter.
- Hendrix College is set to join the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference in 2025.
- Hiram College will be joining the Presidents’ Athletic Conference in 2025.
- John Carroll University is expected to leave the Ohio Athletic Conference for the North Coast Athletic Conference in 2025.
NAIA
- Frontier Conference Football will be adding Dakota State, Mayville State and Valley State in 2025.
