The HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) football program that has produced the most NFL players is Grambling State University!

Grambling State, located in Grambling, Louisiana, has a rich football tradition and has produced numerous NFL players over the years.

Grambling State’s football program, under the leadership of legendary coach Eddie Robinson, enjoyed considerable success during the mid-20th century and beyond. Coach Robinson’s emphasis on discipline, hard work, and player development helped many of his players go on to have successful careers in the NFL.

Some notable Grambling State alumni who made a significant impact in the NFL include:

  1. Doug Williams – The first African American quarterback to win a Super Bowl (Super Bowl XXII) and a former Super Bowl MVP.
  2. Willie Brown – A Hall of Fame cornerback who played for the Oakland Raiders and Denver Broncos.
  3. Buck Buchanan – A Hall of Fame defensive lineman who played for the Kansas City Chiefs.
  4. Charlie Joiner – A Hall of Fame wide receiver who had a distinguished career with several NFL teams.
  5. Willie Davis – A Hall of Fame defensive lineman who played for the Green Bay Packers and later became a successful businessman.

Grambling State’s football program continues to be a source of talent for the NFL, and the university maintains its status as one of the leading HBCUs in player development for professional football. With former Bengals head coach Hue Jackson at the helm, I would not be surprised if a player or two from the 2024 NFL Draft Class makes it to the league as well!
