Player Summary:

Starting TE, SR.The former Sooner has an NFL frame that is impressively long. The Sooners’ standout is primarily a linear athlete with respectable long speed, and despite his stature, he shows good direction change. As a blocker, Stogner has so far had the biggest influence. Even though he performs best in a line, he has potential as a blocker in space if he is patient. The gifted tight end has a broad range of effect thanks to his length and fluid movements. Demonstrates a good understanding of hand usage in preventing contact off his frame. Initiates engagement and displays grip power with his hands. Stogner keeps a broad base, which enables him to anchor through contact; on the other hand, in traffic, he mirrors defenders well. Sheds his blocks due to his length, grip strength, quickness, and leg drive. Uses hesitancy and shoulder fakes to confuse the defense while varying the speed of his route. Maintains good body control when reaching for passes thrown behind him. In jump-ball situations, Stogner is a player who high-points passes and displays good timing, vertical, and hand-eye coordination. Had a knee injury in 2020 that shortened his season as his numbers declined the following season. Hasn’t looked the same from his breakout year but has displayed small spurts of that elite play this year. His release from the line of scrimmage is often inconsistent. His hands aren’t as reliable as you’d like them to be, and even before the injury, he had a few drops. Due to his knee injury, he might not be able to hold his own as a pass blocker in the pros against elite pass rushers; he will need to get stronger. The Gamecock TE is a very raw route runner. He rounds off his cuts and telegraphs frequently. He lacks the burst to maintain separation when attempting to create space. Stogner also finds it difficult to maneuver around physical defenses. He shows potential that needs to be developed if he is to be impactful at the next level.

Scheme Fit:

TE in a run heavy offense.

Power Statement:

After battling injury and not nearly NFL-ready as a receiver, Stogner shows potential high-level traits as a blocker. He’s a raw route runner who should be a viable special teams option while he develops into a potentially well-rounded backup TE in the league.
