2016 NFL Scouting Notes: Kevin Peterson, CB, Oklahoma St

Tonight we begin our look at the Cornerback position. We begin with a player who to this point has not been a starter, but he is expected to step into that role this season. Kevin Peterson could be an interesting player, here are my notes:

The Positives

1) Solid size

2) Good in press coverage

3) Has good footwork

The Negatives

1) Good, not great speed

2) Not a great tackling CB

3) Appears to struggle some in zone coverage

Kevin Peterson is expected to step into a starting spot this season, he has good but not great speed, and has decent size for a corner. He excels in press coverage, and uses good footwork to misdirect the WR. He seems to understand just how much contact to use downfield without drawing a penalty, and appears to have the awareness to turn his head at just the right moment and make a play. He does seem to struggle a bit in zone coverage, and his tackling will have to improve to succeed at the next level. Peterson should be an interesting study this season.
