2016 NFL Draft Scouting Notes: Leonte Carroo, WR, Rutgers

By Lijah Spencer (@tweaked74)
As we inch closer and closer to the college football season we continue our look at some of the prospects that will be available for next Aprils NFL Draft. As always these notes are based off from previous year’s film and will precede the full scouting report which will come after I view games from the upcoming season. Here are my notes:

Leonte Carroo. 6’1. 205 Lbs. WR. Rutgers. (Senior)

The Positives

1) Has very good catch ability

2) Has good speed

3) Tracks the ball in the air very well

The Negatives

1) Needs to improve his run blocking

2) Needs to improve his route running.

Leonte Carroo is a player who considered entering last year’s NFL draft, but opted to return to school for his senior year instead. He has decent size at 6’1, 205 Lbs. Carroo has very good speed, with the ability to outrun defenders. His best trait however is his ability to catch the ball. He can snag it with one hand, or catch it at any angle, high, low, or behind him. He is not afraid to fight for possession of the ball with the defensive back on near (or should be) interceptions. Carroo does need to improve his route running. It is not bad, but it needs to be sharper, more crisp. His run blocking will also need to be improved if he hopes to garner playing time at the next level. As a junior Carroo caught 55 balls for 1,086 yards, and 10 TD’s. With a productive season, and improvements to his route running and blocking, Carroo will definitely hear his name called during next April’s NFL Draft.
