wilsonDraft Diamonds Prospect Interview: Tavarius Wilson, LB, North Alabama

How many teams were recruiting you out of high school?

Out of high school I had 2 offers, but after my sophomore year at Hinds cc I had close to 10 scholarship offers.

Where did you choose and why?

I chose to go to Hinds Community College to put myself back on the market because I felt I was over looked by a lot of schools coming out of high school, but after my sophomore year at Hinds CC I transferred to North Alabama because it felt like a perfect fit.

What were your goals for your senior year?

My senior year goals were first to win conference, make the playoffs, and win the National Championship at all cost. Accomplished 2 of the 3

Have any scouts met with you, and if so what are they saying?

I have talked with a few teams and they say I will defiantly get a shot just make sure I am in the best shape of my life when that time comes.

At your position, what separates you from the others?

My will to win, my unselfish attitude, my win at all cost mentality, and my ball skills along with my understanding of the game set me apart from other linebackers.

Tell us what you look for when breaking down film?

When watching film I look at a teams tendencies in certain situations. What are there go to plays. What is the style of play calling when behind or ahead in a game. How the offensive line plays when they are tired and who are the go to guys, and last blocking schemes.

Who was the toughest player you have ever faced?

I can’t say just one it has been a number of players, but they all were on my team at some point in time one would be Mathew Willis RB when we were on the same team at Hinds cc and Chris Coffey RB my teammate North Alabama.

If you could compare your play to one person in the NFL who would it be?

I would have to say Ray Lewis because of his passion and will to win. His love for the game.

What was the biggest obstacle in your life you had to overcome, and how did you overcome it?

It would be coming off of an All American jr year in 2012 at North Alabama playing ILB and having to switch to OLB in 2013. I overcame it by looking at 2013 as a challenge and remembering what I feel might be best for me is not always what’s best for the team. When I bit my pride, I was blesses with 7 different first team all American Honors, D2 national player of the year honors, and a lot of other awards.

What system fits your style of play the best?

4-3, 3-4 are probably the best fits.

What is your biggest strength?

Ball skills, game preparation, and understanding of the game

What is your biggest weakness?

My hips at times

If I were a GM and gave you a second to sell yourself, what would you say?

What you see is what you get a hard worker, a person who will give his everything on every down, a person who is never satisfied with average, and just an unselfish football player who would rather win the Game and have one tackle than have 20 tackles and loose. A true student of the game.

Growing up, who was your role model?

My mother and father they have always pushed me to be not only the best, but the best person that I can be.

Who was your favorite team and player in the NFL and why?

My favorite team is the Steelers and player James Harrison

If you were to have dinner with three people dead or alive who would it be?

Ray Lewis just to pick his brain not only about football but about life, and my mother and father.

With your first paycheck what would you buy?

I would just make sure my family is taken care of. They have always been my biggest supporters when everyone else doubted.
