Draft Diamonds Prospect Interview: Noel Grigsby, WR, San Jose State University
How many teams were recruiting you out of high school?
Had scholarship offers from 5 schools.
Where did you choose and why?
I chose San Jose State because it was a program on the rise and I wanted to be apart of a class that helped bring it into national recognition. I also had an instant connection with Coach Dick Tomey and Charles Nash.
What were your goals for your senior year?
My goals were to help my team win a conference title and make another bowl game. Individually, I wanted to be there to make the big play in clutch situations. Due to my injury, I fell short on these goals.
Have any scouts met with you, and if so what are they saying?
I haven’t personally met with any scouts but my agent is pushing me to them. From what I’m told they are awaiting my pro day to see my health and my abilities.
At your position, what separates you from the others?
I catch everything and take pride in keeping the ball off the ground. I run precise routes and know how to maneuver and find open spaces in zone. I attack the ball in the air and create separation in various ways.
Tell us what you look for when breaking down film?
I look for habits and tendencies of defenses and the individual players that play. What will they give me on this down or what coverages they usually play. In individuals I look at how early or late they open their hips and how well they break and play the ball.
Who was the toughest player you have ever faced?
Leon McFadden was probably the most polished db I faced.
If you could compare your play to one person in the NFL who would it be?
What was the biggest obstacle in your life you had to overcome, and how did you overcome it?
Biggest obstacle in my life was injuring my knee the third game into my senior season of college. I overcame by believing God had a plan for me no matter the circumstance. My athletic trainers at school assisted me in so many ways. Because of them and my loved ones, I overcame and remained faithful.
What system fits your style of play the best?
I believe I play well in all styles. I’m familiar with the West Coast offense terminology from college however.
What is your biggest strength?
Intelligence and ability to get open
What is your biggest weakness?
Improving on yards after initial contact
If I were a GM and gave you a second to sell yourself, what would you say?
I would say that I’m a leader and a hard worker. I take pride in not allowing anyone to out work me. My competitiveness and desire to be great fuels me to take heed to all teaching and instruction. I’m willing to sacrifice anything for the bettering of the team. As a receiver, I catch the ball and make plays. As a special teams player, I’ll assist wherever I’m needed. I just want to play again.
Growing up, who was your role model?
My parents, Kobe Bryant, and my big brothers at church who taught me how to compete.
Who was your favorite team and player in the NFL and why?
The Denver Broncos. My favorite players were Rod Smith, Terrell Davis, and John Elway.
What was the most tragic event that ever happened in your life and how did you overcome it?
In 9th grade, my house caught on fire. My family and I lived outside of our home for two years staying with my uncle and then my grandmother. During this time my grandmother passed away. It was tough on us all. However, I had to grow up at the age of 14. In the mist of grief, I played 3 sports and worked nights and weekend at a local restaurant to make money. At this time I learned hardwork, responsibility, and how to fight on through adversity. I overcame through prayer and belief in God. He provided a way of escape as He always does.
If you were to have dinner with three people dead or alive who would it be?
Jesus Christ, Michael Jackson, and my deceased friend Eric Peevy.
With your first paycheck what would you buy?
I would buy my parents a new car.Do you follow the NFL Draft? If so follow NFL Draft Diamonds on Twitter and Facebook for up to date NFL Draft News, NFL Draft Projections, and NFL Draft Rankings. Jesus is the only way to Salvation
