Welcome back to another USports Player Spotlight of the Week! For this week, we spoke to Kaseem Ferdinand, a quick-twitch receiver out from Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Here’s what he had to say in our interview:

  1. Hello Kaseem! Thanks for taking the time to speak with me. How are you doing? What are you up to these days? Please introduce yourself to our readers!
    • I’m doing great sir. These days I’m taking a full course load at Carleton University studying Global Law. I am also training with CFL legend Eddie Brown 3 days a week on top of practice and lifts every day while playing basketball when I have the chance.
  2. What got you into football? & Why do you enjoy playing football?
    • I’ve been playing football since I was 6 years old, my older brothers got me into it and I’ve been in love with it ever since. I enjoy playing football because it is a feeling like no other. Grown men chasing me and trying to take me down when I know they don’t have a chance brings me an immense amount of joy and adrenaline.
  3. What are your goals as a football player and as an overall person?
    • My goals as a football player are to help my current team win a Vanier Cup, then eventually make it to the NFL and win a Super Bowl and earn a gold jacket. As a person, I would like to be a leader in my community and on my team. I’d like to give back to the people who’ve helped me accomplish all I have so far. Finally, I’d like to give my mom everything she could ever want because she is my inspiration in life.
  4. How do you feel going into your 3rd year at Carleton?
    • Going into my 3rd year, I feel great, the team is in an excellent position now and we have all been working really hard under Coach Corey’s (Head Coach at Carleton) guidance. I truly believe we could make a deep playoff push now.
  5. What was your best game last season? How did you feel after the game?
    • My best game of the season came in Week 7 vs Waterloo, I had 213 total yards and we won 38-18. I felt great after the game; helping my team earn another win and being one game closer to our ultimate goal that year. I truly believe I could be that productive every game, and that performance proved it to me.
  6. What’s your typical fitness routine?
    • My fitness routine involves lots of running, playing basketball almost every day, working out every day, and whenever there is an open field I’m there! I love the grind!
  7. What is your favorite offensive scheme and why?
    • My favorite scheme is probably the west coast offense; I love the idea of getting the ball out quickly and into the hands of the team’s playmakers.
  8. What would you tell a team during a draft interview?
    • I would tell a team they’re getting a hard-working individual who is never satisfied with our play, there’s always something we can improve.
  9. What would you tell aspiring football athletes?
    • I’d tell inspiring athletes to work hard and to outwork their competition. Football is amazing because no matter the talent God gave you, everyone has a chance to be great depending on their work ethic.
  10. Do you have any highlights you want to show?
    • Yes, I do. Here are my 2nd Year Highlights:
