Pittman’s Pocket: 2023 HBCU Signing Day Sleepers

Today Brian Pittman, of Pittman’s Pocket breaks down some of 2023’s HBCU Signing Day Sleepers
- Anthony Murphy II out of Columbus, Ohio, the 6’4 250 Edge Rusher, has a piercing pass rushing presence in a 3-4 or a good base 4-4-3. Murphy is a havoc of nature off the edge with 4.6 speed. Murphy has speed to rush the passer and drop in coverage. Coach Larry Scott and Howard University Bisons landed a good one in Murphy.
- Kobe Nakkai Mendez the 6’3 195 Wideout out of IMG Academy, in Bradenton, Florida is my next awesome signing. Mendez was very productive at IMG with over 600 yards receiving and a slew of touch down grabs. Mendez is hoping this HBCU trend out of IMG can be also be a trend in furthering the IMG Academy pipeline to HBCU football programs. Coach Fred McNair is very excited, and has established a good idea to tap into, which is the IMG Academy.
- DeAndre Townes Blue Is a huge pick up for Coach Otis and the Jackson State Tigers. Townes-Blue is a 6’5 310 offensive linemen from Willow Grove, Pennsylvania and was a healthy addition towards a re-vamped offensive line. Out of Lackawanna CC, I believe Andre will adapt, very fast and competitively.
- Junior Heimuli is also an electric signing for Jackson State. The 6’2 220 Linebacker out of Snow CC College were very productive this past season, ranking him in the top in tackles, this past season.
- Jaylen Lewis out of Pensacola, Florida committed to New Head Coach Raymond Woodie, this past Wednesday. The 6’1 200 LB shall be an instant contributor to the Wildcats freshman class. Lewis had various D1 offers but chose Daytona, Florida to be his new home.
