Draft Diamonds Free Agent Interview: Akeem Gordon, Wide Receiver

Akeem Gordon
Akeem Gordon the Free Agent standout Wide Receiver recently sat down with Justin Berendzen of NFL Draft Diamonds.

Hello, I am @jrberendzen on Twitter and this is one of my free agent interviews where I ask very deserving free agents questions about the players themselves and about what a team would get in these players. All of these players should get picked up by NFL and CFL teams and get a shot at being a career football player. So I hope you all read this interview and follow his journey on Twitter @myambition_21

1.What do you hope to achieve as a football player going forward?

I hope to leave a legacy and to be an example of positivity to my city. So many people don’t live to make it out and I’m living proof that you can achieve whatever you put your mind too!

2.What is your favorite stadium that you have played in?

My favorite stadium that I played in was SWOSU. The facilities, the crowd, and the turf were all great. That was the best game of my career.

3.What is your mindset when you are on the football field?

My mindset when I’m on the football field is to kill everything that’s in front of me. I feel like I’ve prepared myself for the moments so why not show how important your preparation was.

4.What is your favorite workout?

My favorite workouts are really just hitting the field and actually learning new things while perfecting my craft. I also love the weight room and how the work shows later what you did in the offseason.

5.If your life was a tv show what would you call it and why?

If my life was a show it would be called dreams and nightmares because the dreams I use to have always seemed like nightmares to me because I never thought that I make it out of where I was and to actually get closer and closer to my dream every day is monumental and is a huge stepping stone to me.

6.What do you do for fun?

For fun, I shoot pool, study different techniques, and chill with my wife and kids.

7.If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day who and why?

If I could hang out with any player, it would be Antonio Brown simply because I try to immolate every move he makes and I wake to understand how he gets through every workout, what’s his mindset going forward and how he’s battling adversities. He works out hard and I watch him take care of his body so I want see how he treats his body daily.

8.What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?

I knew I wanted to be a football player because it was my only way to show my real self and to get over my insecurities. I also was able to see things from a different point of view by football exposing me to more life and many different ethnicities.

9.What has been your biggest challenge in life?

My biggest challenge in life has been a lot. I went to several different schools, trying to find my right position to finding the right spot, from being homeless and finally having a family and having to provide for my then one. I am a father, a husband, and playing football takes away from my family time so it’s a lot.

10.What would a team get in a player like you?

A team would get a hard worker who never stops, a technician, a leader, a special team player and someone’s who’s going to walk the walk and talk the talk.

11.What are your favorite moments from your football life?

1 of the most memorable moments was against SWOSU, I had 2 blocked punts, a fumble recovery, and 3 catches for 55 yards. I also have a 65-yard kick return against Iowa Western when I played at Fort Scott Community college.

12.Rank focus, footwork and skill based on what is most important to you as a football player and explain why?

I feel that focus is definitely number 1 but skill isn’t the main focus. You can be the most talented at the position but if you can get the job done and do what the coaches ask of you, then you in the door. Footwork is a necessity and a huge component but focus, and skill is definitely number 1 and 2.
