How many reliable back-up quarterbacks are their in the NFL?

The NFL has turned into a quarterback driven league, and while it is great to have a solid veteran quarterback like Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, and Aaron Rodgers, the problem remains, if something happens to the starter, what will the team do?

If you look at the back-ups to those quarterbacks the only one that has ever really taken a snap is Matt Flynn.  How important is it to have a back-up quarterback?

Last year if it was not for Matt Flynn, the Green Bay Packers would not have made the playoffs.  He put the Packers on his back and led them to the playoffs.  Josh McCown was outstanding as a back-up for Jay Cutler, but how many teams actually have a solid back up QB?

I think the best five back-ups in the NFL are:

Michael Vick – The New York Jets signed the former Eagle and he is by far the best back-up in the NFL.  He might be better than the Jets actual starter.

Kirk Cousins – The back-up for the Redskins is a very solid player and he honestly has not played that many games.  He is a solid back-up though, when he did come in and play.

Mark Sanchez – Sanchez was a very good quarterback in his time with the New York Jets.  The Eagles now have him backing up Nick Foles and he could be the best back-up on a need to go basis.

Mike Glennon – Glennon will now be backing up Josh McCown, who was legendary in his role last year.  I think Glennon is a very solid back up.

Case Keenum – The Houston Texans have three back-ups, but Keenum is probably the best back up behind Ryan Fitzpatrick.

At the end of the day, the other teams truly do not have a back-up.  How important do you think a back-up is?
