Draft Diamonds Free Agent Interview: David Calderon, Linebacker

David Calderon Free Agent LB
Free Agent Linebacker David Calderon recently sat down with NFL Draft Diamonds writer Justin Berendzen.

Hello, I am @jrberendzen on Twitter and this is one of my free agent interviews where I ask very deserving free agents questions about the players themselves and about what a team would get in these players. All of these players should get picked up by NFL and CFL teams and get a shot at being a career football player. So I hope you all read this interview with David Calderon. Make sure you follow him on Twitter at @Calderon57Dave

1.If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day who and why?

This question is tough because it would have to be between Patrick Willis and Aaron Donald. I’d want to know how Patrick Willis was able to overcome all the obstacles he’s faced in his life growing up to become what he has become. I’d want to pick Donald to pick his brain on how he’s become an unstoppable force and learn more of his game to make me a better player. In the end, it’s tough but I think I’d have to pick Aaron Donald.

2.If you were on a island and could only have three things which three things would you have?

1) First things first, my phone would have to be with me as my source of connection to the world. 2) Then, I’d have to go with an unlimited supply of food of course because I love to eat. 3) I’d go with fresh water. IF family is an option, I’d substitute that in for sure!

3.What is your mindset when you are on the football field?

Simple, just be as disruptive as possible. My goal is to make the QB as uncomfortable as possible to where I can feel his eyes on me all game whether it’s a sack, pressure, or knockdown. I have to be disruptive.

4.What is your favorite dinner?

Spaghetti never lets me down!

5.What do you do for fun?

Besides training? I’d say going out with my Fiancé, Olayi, and my brother (Wayne) and his girlfriend (Delgis). It’s always an awesome time when we all link up for TheTour!

6.Who is your favorite musical artist?

Overall artist, I’d have to lock in Drake. He never misses and comes out at clutch moments every time. He’s simply the GOAT! But, if we are speaking favorite rapper specifically, then Eminem.

7.What is your favorite movie?

This is a tough one always, but Wolf of Wall Street is something I make sure I watch AT LEAST once a year. No movie has motivated me more to achieve greatness.

8.What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?

I began playing football because I wanted to be like my brother. But, wanting to become a football player as a career came when I began really watching football and studying highlights. I then, saw that I could emulate what I watched on TV and became good at it. Football became my passion and crave. I want to be great.

9. If there was a tv show about your life what would you call it and why?

I’d name it “Underdog” because I’ve literally been in the underdog situation since high school and always managed to climb my way up the ranks once given the right opportunity in God’s timing. I’ve had to learn it’s all in his timing and that my time will come. I come from an entire story of being an underdog and would make an inspirational TV show once I complete my story.

10.What would a team get in a player like you?

Aside from talent, a team who decided to take a chance on me would get one of the most relentless players on their roster. They’d get someone who played each play like everything he has is on the line. They’d sign a player who plays with great leverage and versatility. I also see myself as a sponge and extremely coachable which is many players’ downfall. I am a high character man who builds healthy relationships wherever I land. Overall, I’m an asset to any team that signs me and they would thank themselves in the long run for doing it.

11.If you were an animal which animal would you be and why?

I’d have to go with a wolf for a few reasons. Wolves are known to always be loyal to their pack. In a wolf pack, the leader, who I see myself as, is not in the front, but remains in the back during travel. He does this to ensure the safety of his pack and protect them from any threats. When the time comes, the wolf can turn into savage mode in the blink of an eye for his pack or when put into a corner…I can relate.

12.If you could live anywhere in the world where and why?

This isn’t a question I think of much, but I wouldn’t mind residing here in a nice area of New Jersey. We have NY north of us, the shore, Philly is right next to us, Atlantic City, etc. There’s much to do here and if needed, I can fly down to Florida. The weather is pretty decent as we get pretty much every season. We don’t get many natural disasters so it’s safe to keep my family. I’ll take Jersey.
