Giles Amos Arkansas State university
Former Alabama tight end Giles Amos finished out his career at Arkansas State and is flying under the radar. This kid is a gamer.

What is your name?

Giles Amos

What is your Height/Weight?

6’4 252

What is your position?

Tight End

Where do you play college football?

Walked on at Alabama, earned a scholarship, transferred and finished my career at Arkansas State University

Football is about giving back, what is the coolest thing you have done off the field?

One of the coolest things that ever happened to me was shipping a father my gloves because his son had lost an autographed item earlier in the day and he was heart broken. I had forgotten about it and months later on Christmas Morning I received a text of his kid opening the gloves and he was so excited. That was a really cool moment I’ll never forget.

What was the hardest college class you ever had to take?

A class in my Masters Program of Sports Administration called Techniques of Research. It included two research papers that took a lot of time and digging into the topics which you chose. It was a good class, but difficult.

Where are you from?

Perry, Georgia

Who is your role model, and why?

If I’m choosing just one, it would have to be my dad. He’s always been so supportive and sacrificed a lot to get me where I am. I’m forever in debt and hope to be able to pay back half that he has done for me one day.

Did you play any other sports growing up?

Yes, I played Basketball, Baseball, and also ran Track.

Did you play any other positions in football?

I also played Safety along with Punter in high school.

At your position, what separates you from others?

I have experience in multiple areas that a tight end can benefit a team. Whether it be full back, H-back, attached, spread out, or special teams, I’ve done it all in high level game situations. Also, my work ethic. I will be the hardest worker in the room and always put in the extra effort.

When you are breaking down film, what do you look for?

I pay a lot of attention to my explosion off the ball, my initial strike, my hand placement, and my footwork. It is important to be consistent in your craft and that’s something that’s important to me.

When it comes to route running, I watch my get off and how crisp my route is to a tee. If the route says 10 yards ensuring I go a full 10 and not cutting it short. If I’m pressed or locked, having a plan pre snap in order to put myself in a position to win the route.

Who was the toughest player you ever faced?

My freshman year I went up against Jonathan Allen who is now with the Redskins. He is probably the most physical and technically sound player I’ve ever had to go against.

If you could compare your play to one player in the NFL who would it be and why?

I would say Dawson Knox. Our size is very similar, he does a little bit of everything, and is a three down player. He’s physical in the run game but also has the ability to be lethal in the passing game.

Do you have any pre-game rituals?

I always put my uniform on in the same order every game while listening to Shake It by Metro Station.

As a small school football player what obstacles do you feel you have to overcome?

I think the biggest think Group of Five players have to overcome is proving they can match up with the competition. There’s something about being an underdog that excites me and just helps me keep that chip on my shoulder to go out and grind every day.

What is your biggest strength?

My work ethic combined with my attitude. I try and be the hardest worker in the room. You’re either getting better or worst, never staying the same, so I keep that in mind and do whatever it takes to be great.

What is your biggest weakness?

At times I can find myself trying to take on too much responsibility. I think it’s important for everyone to do their job and for me to have the trust in my teammates that they will do their job as well.

If I were a GM and gave you a second to sell yourself, what would you say?

I’m a hard worker who has earned everything that’s been given to me and never shied away from the competition. I will go to work every day with the right mindset and show my abilities in this great sport of football. I’ll buy in to the values and principles of the organization to be the most selfless player I can be and to also maximize my potential to help a team in any way that I can.

Who was your favorite player and/or NFL team growing up?

My favorite player was Tony Gonzalez and my favorite team was the Falcons. Tony Gonzalez is the best at the position and watching him really made me fall in love with the sport. His game was a work of art.

If you could have dinner with three people dead or alive, who would you choose?

Post Malone- I like his music and he seems like a chill down to earth guy.

Lebron James- He’s great. My favorite athlete of all time. I love watching the way he plays the game. Unselfish and a competitor.

Tony Gonzalez- I’d love to pick his brain on football. He has so much knowledge of the game and in my opinion is the best tight end to ever play the game. I could learn a thing or two from him.

With your first NFL paycheck what would you buy?

Dinner for my family. My mom, dad, brother, and sister have all been so supportive of me, bending over backwards to make games of mine all over the country. I would love to just sit down with them and reflect on the journey and let them know how appreciative I am that they’ve been with me all the way through.

Rapid Answers:

  • Whose better Peyton Manning or Tom Brady?

It’s hard to go with anyone other than Tom Brady. Especially after this past Super Bowl, Tom Brady is the GOAT.

  • Better Running Back Adrian Peterson or Barry Sanders?

I’m biased. I grew up watching Adrian Peterson so I have to go with him. One of my favorite players to watch growing up.

  • Better safety Eric Weddle or Ed Reed?

Ed Reed for sure. That’s a BAD man coming in with BAD intentions every play.

  • Better linebacker Ray Lewis or Luke Kuechly?

I have to go with Ray Lewis. He’s out for blood every play. Love a linebacker with his mentality.
