Cardinals quickly remove Kyler Murray’s independent study clause | Why was it even added in the first place, Race?

Kyler Murray injury fantasy football rankings
Kyler Murray claimed he did not like to kill himself watching film, then when a clause went into his contract asking him to study more film, he immediately felt disrespected.

This of course is going to be an opinionated article, but let’s be honest have you ever heard of Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers, Josh Allen or any other big-time white quarterback being asked to study more than four hours?

The only quarterbacks really taking a ton of criticism lately are Lamar Jackson and Kyler Murray. Lamar is up for a contract extension too, could we see some crazy language in his contract too?

I know many hate when race is brought it, but many will say it was a racial thing. I personally feel that it is not a race thing, rather a lazy thing.

Remember Kyler Murray described himself as “not one of those guys that’s going to sit there and kill myself watching film.”

Well, those key words are now coming back to haunt him. Maybe he truly does need to watch more film. I don’t think it is a race thing, but it just so happened to be in the contract of an African-American quarterback.

Murray did elaborate on his comments back in 2021 saying, that he could visualize what was going on during games thanks to great cognitive skills. So he didn’t feel a need to watch a lot of extra film.

Well, it pissed off a lot of people, including Kyler Murray himself.

Yesterday, Murray expressed his displeasure with the suggestions about his film study habits.

“To think I can accomplish everything that I’ve accomplished in my career and not be a student of the game and not have that passion and not take this serious, is disrespectful,” Murray said. “It’s almost a joke.

“I’m flattered. I’m honestly flattered that y’all think that, at my size, I can go out there and not prepare for the game and not take it serious. It’s disrespectful. I feel like for my peers, to all the athletes and great players who are in this league. This game is too hard. To play the position that I play in this league, it’s too hard.”

Last Night, the Cardinals removed the addendum to Murray’s contract that mandated independent study during game weeks.

“It was clearly perceived in ways that were never intended,” the Cardinals said in a statement announcing the removal of the clause on Thursday night.

“Our confidence in Kyler Murray is as high as it’s ever been and nothing demonstrates our belief in his ability to lead this team more than the commitment reflected in this contract.”

I honestly want to know what you think. Do you feel it was placed in his contract because of his skin color or because of his comments? I know it doesn’t matter anymore, just want to have a healthy debate!
