The Redskins defense looks pretty scary on paper, could be a huge fantasy steal

Every year there is a defense that shines in Fantasy football and helps lift a fantasy squad get into the playoffs.  This year, the Washington Redskins look pretty amazing on paper, I think it could be a top 10 defense on paper, regardless of playing in the NFC East.

When you look at the defensive line, I believe this is their weakest unit.  They have the young Jarvis Jenkins from Clemson manning the the right defensive end position with seven year veteran Stephen Bowen of Hofstra playing the left end.  They have the big monster Barry Cofield playing the nose tackle position.  Cofield is an underrated player who understands his role and is very good at causing problems for the big men up front.  The rotational guys the Skins have are pretty solid as well with Kedric Gholston, Chris Neild, and Chris Baker.  I don’t think we should leave off former Dolphins draft pick Phillip Merling.  This front could be a pretty impressive unit after looking at the depth.

When you get to the linebackers the Skins have some amazing talent.  We all know London Fletcher is a stud, but the other starters are Perry Riley, Ryan Kerrigan and Brian Orakpo.  This unit might be one of the best in the NFL at the end of the year, if they can all stay healthy.  Kerrigan has looked amazing already in preseason, and I expect big things from this Unit.  Their back-ups are pretty solid as well, they have former Green Bay Packer and Buffalo Bill Nick Barnett, along with Darryl Tapp, Rodderick Muckelroy, and Brandon Jenkins.  This unit is special, but wait til you see the secondary.

When you get to the secondary, I was first a little scared, but they have some solid players. DeAngelo Hall and Josh Wilson will be the starters at corner, with rookie David Amerson coming in on nickel packages.  At safety the Redskins have Georgia playmaker Bacarri Rambo and former New England Patriot Brandon Merriweather.  Injuries are going to play a very vital role this season, but I truly think that the Skins are going to be serious on “D”.  I am a big fan of back-up safeties Reed Doughty and DeJon Gomes , because they give the Skins depth that is needed to succeeded.

I honestly believe that if the Skins come in less than 13th place in the NFL it is considered a fail.  This team should be a top ten defense this year, and I would not mind if a team was willing to take a risk on the Skins.
