The Buccaneers should hire Tony Dungy as their next General Manager
Tony Dungy is a legend in Tampa, Florida, and let’s face it he has a great relationship with Lovie Smith. Just the other day he vouched for Lovie, saying that Lovie would be a great hire for the Buccaneers.
Dungy was head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1996 to 2001, and head coach of the Indianapolis Colts from 2002 to 2008.
Dungy became the first African American head coach to win the Super Bowl when his Colts defeated the Chicago Bears inSuper Bowl XLI. Dungy set a new NFL record for consecutive playoff appearances by a head coach in 2008 after securing his tenth straight playoff appearance with a win against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
After the 2008 season, Dungy announced his retirement as coach of the Indianapolis Colts, which went into effect after the2008–2009 season. Since retirement, Dungy has served as an analyst on NBC’s Football Night in America. Tony Dungy is also the national spokesman for the fatherhood program All Pro Dad which is huge in Florida. The Colts qualified for the playoffs in every season they were coached by Dungy.
I don’t know what the Buccaneers have in store for the GM spot, but they would be stupid to not bring a guy in like Dungy. Dungy is a very intelligent talent evaluator, and the fact that Lovie Smith comes from Tony’s coaching tree, it would be crazy to not see this take place. It almost makes too much sense when you think about it. I know the Tampa fans would be excited to get both Tony Dungy and Lovie Smith back. Shoot while they are at it maybe they will bring back the old school unis too….
