Small Schooler DE Willie Jefferson gaining confidence of Wade Phillips and company

Willie Jefferson was a favorite of mine during the 2012 season.  I am actually one of the people that played a major role in getting the former Baylor defensive end a shot at the Raycom All Star Game.  Well Jefferson has been able to seize the moment.  He has been impressive and is starting to impress the coaches in Houston.  The Texans are beginning to love 6’6, 230 pound product from Stephen F. Austin, and I understand why that would be. He is an athletic freak, who has been pushing the Texans draft picks Sam Montgomery (who showed up out of shape) and Trevardo Williams. I expect the Texans to keep Jefferson, because he has been getting first team reps according to Gil Brandt of NFL Network.

Hearing some buzz around @HoustonTexans UFA LB Willie Jefferson from Stephen Austin. Could be seeing substantial playing time as rookie.

Willie Jefferson was such an amazing player he was training at both Tight End and Defensive End.  I had the pleasure to talk with this trainer Noel Scarlett of 4th and Inches, who had some amazing things to say about the preseason stand out.

“We aren’t surprised at the success he is having. His transition from DE to LB was something that we worked on and the hard work is paying off. The transition he made is a difficult one, look at the other players on his team who are having difficulty doing it. His success is something we talked about every day while training, so he deserves it because he put in the work and was properly prepared.  You can only succeed when proper preparation meets hard work.” – Noel Scarlett, Owner of 4th and Inches (Jefferson’s trainer)
