Small School assistant coach was murdered last night in movie theatre

We hate to bring tragic news, but we would like to send our prayers and condolences to the family of coach Derek Moore.

Coach Moore passed away from injuries received last night in a shooting outside a local movie theatre.

Moore, 37, was in his first year with the Lions as offensive line coach. Coach Moore came to MSSU this year after coaching for three seasons at Western Illinois University. He had coached collegiate football for a total of 14 seasons.

He leaves behind a 7-year-old son.

“We are stunned and deeply saddened by this tragic incident, and our prayers are with Derek’s family,” said MSSU Interim President Alan Marble. “We are ensuring that our employees and students have the emotional support they need during this difficult time.

This is horrible news, and due to the death, the game has been cancelled for today. The MSSU Team was supposed to play Lindenwood. They haven’t said if the game will be made up at a later time, because right now they want to make sure the staff has enough support to get through this tragic event.
