Robert Lester, who started 40 games at Alabama and helped the Crimson Tide to three BCS national championships, went undrafted in April and signed a free agent contract with Carolina. He didn’t make the final cut, but Panthers coach Ron Rivera said the team signed him to the practice squad following a strong final preseason game “just in case.”
Well that scenario came to fruition last week. Rivera promoted Lester from the practice squad on Tuesday and, with veterans Charles Godrey and Quintin Mikell ruled out with injuries, named him the starter on Thursday of last week.
Well this week Robert Lester showed up and in a big fashion. Lester finished the game with 5 tackles (3 solo), a fumble recovered, and a huge interception. Lester was huge and deserves to start from here on out. I loved the way Lester played, his knock was his speed in Alabama, but he looked pretty quick against the Giants. This week the Panthers are on bye week, but when they come back Lester deserves the start.Do you follow the NFL Draft?
