One Atlanta Falcons draft trade that could come back to bite them is…..

The Atlanta Falcons were hoping to land an inside linebacker in the draft, and they did that. The question is did they give up too much to get him?

The Falcons traded their sixth round pick #182 and a seventh round pick #220 to move up to the Vikings fifth round pick to select Marquis Spruill out of Syracuse.

Even though the fifth round is considered a reach by many draftniks, Spruill is a tough player.  He was 6’1″ and 231 pounds, and ran a 4.53 40 at his pro day. He also managed 21 bench press reps, a 9′ 9″ broad jump, and ran the shuttle in 4.46 and the three cone drill in 7.33. Those are all impressive numbers, until he showed up at the Falcons mini camp.

The Falcons were expecting the same guy they noticed at his pro day, but instead they met a 220 pound inside linebacker.  That is 11 pounds off from his pro day and their staff immediately pulled him to the side and told him he needed to add 15 pounds.  If Spruill cannot add the weight could he be in danger already of a roster spot?

I don’t know why an agent or a trainer would want him to lose weight, but for whatever reason, the Falcons already have overpaid for Spruill.  He better gain those fifteen pounds and come out swinging trying to earn a roster spot, because his first impression is already a bad one.
