Are the New England Patriots trying hard to trade Ryan Mallett?

For the past several years the New England Patriots have been sitting Ryan Mallett the former Arkansas Razorback behind one of the greatest quarterbacks in the game.  Mallett has been learning from a “Legend” in Tom Brady, but is his time about to expire in New England?

Over the past several days the New England Patriots have met with a group on quarterbacks.  Yesterday the team met with Zach Mettenberger, the other day they brought in Johnny Football, they are supposed to meet with A.J. McCarron and they worked out Logan Thomas.

The team could have met with more quarterbacks besides the one mentioned, but at the end of the day why would they be meeting with quarterbacks?  Tom Brady is getting older, but do the Patriots feel Ryan Mallett is not the answer as the heir apparent?

Another question you can ask yourself is, Could the Patriots be trying to trade Ryan Mallett? This might be the most logical answer. According to NFL.com, Cleveland Browns head coach Mike  Pettine said that the team will look to add a veteran quarterback this off-season before the draft and since they only have Alex Tanney on the roster apart from Hoyer, names like Rex Grossman and Brady Quinn are on the free agent market.

The Browns could look to add one of those names, while ESPN.com team blogger Pat McManamon suggests that the team could pull off a deal for either Mallett or Cousins. Both players have been mentioned in trade rumors this offseason and they could be in the mix for the Browns, as they are young, will cost less than a first round draft pick.

Maybe the Patriots are dangling Ryan Mallett out to teams to draw a draft pick, and select a new successor to Tom Brady?  I don’t know the Patriots intentions, but they are obviously looking for a quarterback, and the players they have brought in are not going to be late rounders minus Logan Thomas.  I honestly feel that the Ryan Mallett era in New England could be over soon.  What do you think?
