Clay Matthews is the highest paid outside linebacker at about $13.2 million per year. Right behind him is Trent Cole at $12.1 million per year and behind him is the Chiefs own Tamba Hali at $11.5 million per year. These numbers according to Spotrac and Over The Cap, but what is Justin Houston worth?
Right now Houston is only making 1.431 million this year, and with his amazing production you can see why he would want a pay raise. Since he has been in the NFL he has accrued 26.5 sacks, and last year finished with 11. Houston is playing like a top tier linebacker and deserves to be paid like one. If you look at his statistics he is definitely worth 11.5 million a season, but could he be demanding more money than Tamba Hali?
A source tells ProFootballTalk that Chiefs OLB Justin Houston will likely show up for training camp next week. The 2x Pro Bowler wants a pay raise, and I feel he is well worth it, but can the Chiefs afford to have both Tamba Hali and Houston on the same defense making 10 million plus and be able to re-sign Alex Smith who wants top dollar?Do you follow the NFL Draft?
