Is Kyle Rudolph the best tight end in the NFL?

Kyle Rudolph ended 2013 on injured reserve with a fractured left foot after playing just eight games. However, the Minnesota Vikings tight end does not lack for confidence in looking toward 2014. According to St. Paul Pioneer Press, in an interview at a charity even he was asked who was the best tight end in the NFL, and he stated himself.

“Me,” he replied

“There’s a ton of talented tight ends in our game,” Rudolph said. “You have guys that play at a high level, like Jimmy Graham, Rob Gronkowski, Jason Witten and Vernon Davis. But I would put myself up there with them.

“I feel as a tight end, it’s extremely important to be a guy that can contribute in the running game and also in the passing game.”

I feel that Rudolph is a very special talent, but I don’t know if I am willing to put him in the top four category right now. In his first three seasons  Rudolph has amassed 109 catches for 1,055 yards and 15 touchdowns. Graham had 1,215 yards and 16 touchdowns on just 86 receptions in 2013 alone, so it is hard to imagine him as a top tight end target right now, but at least he doesn’t lack confidence.
