If you ask Sam Ajala, he was destined for greatness. Ajala grew up in the Desoto, Texas, the youngest of James & Bisi’s 7 children, dreaming of being an NFL Hall of Famer. His first email handle? “futurehof2011″. Ajala is now heading into his senior season with the Fordham Rams, and finds himself on the cusp of the NFL. Before the Hall of Fame, one must make the 53 man roster in the big leagues, and prosper there for awhile. Ajala clearly has the skills to make that happen.
Possessing good size at 6’0 even and nearly 200 pounds, Ajala has become the go-to man in the Rams offense, which is driven by fellow NFL-hopeful QB Michael Nebrich. A consensus All-American last season, Ajala amassed an amazing 93 grabs for 1,646 yards (a school record) with 14 touchdowns. Ajala specializes in running vertical routes and coming down with the big catch. With a similar production in his senior season, plus a solid postseason, Ajala should have a good shot at being drafted next year. So you would be surprised that a guy this good had exactly 0 offers coming out of high school.
Ajala starred at Desoto High, which is home to such names as Denver Broncos Pro Bowl linebacker Von Miller, and Kansas City Chiefs Running Back Cyrus Gray. Ajala led a receiving core at Desoto that would put 3 other WR’s in the D1 ranks (2 to TCU, 1 to Colorado). Regardless, Ajala wasn’t afforded the same opportunity. Ajala wound up at Fordham, making an immediate impact as a freshman (15 catches for 144 yards, 1 touchdown). Since then, Ajala has only gotten better and better. He is a determined, focused player, with defined goals and his head in the right place.
“Football is my life. Making it to the NFL along wouldn’t even be an achievement to me. I want to be remembered as great.”
