The 5-year offer sheet the @jaguars are expected to execute for C Alex Mack will make him the highest-paid center, source tells @FOXSports1.
Earlier today, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that the Jaguars will sign Browns center Alex Mack to a five-year offer sheet by Friday. Now, Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that Mack has agreed to terms regarding an offer sheet that has not yet been reduced to writing.
The writing is on the wall for the Browns, but with the team losing their best offensive lineman it is going to hurt them big time. Alex Mack has been a very solid player for the Browns and has really turned into a viable piece in the Browns rebuilding. Losing Alex Mack is going to hurt the Browns big time.
Remember the Browns can still match the Jaguars offer, but if they do they might affect other positions of need. The Browns might have dropped the ball by placing the transition tag on Alex Mack. If they would have placed the franchise tag on him, they would be rewarded two first round picks if a team signed him, instead they will receive no compensation.
Carolina’s Ryan Kalil is currently the NFL’s richest pivot. In August of 2011, the Panthers gave Kalil a six-year, $49 million contract. That deal contained $28 million guaranteed, including an $18 million signing bonus.
