Formations Fantasy Football Review: New York Jets

The New York Jets were not as bad as many thought they’d be in 2013. This fact saved Rex Ryan’s job. A team that is known for defense also has some offensive players that can be solid additions to your fantasy teams.

Star: Chris Ivory (RB)

13 Stats: 182 carries-883 yards-3 TDs

Why He’s a Star: The first thought many might have is wondering about Chris Johnson. He was signed in the offseason to be the starter for the Jets. However, Ivory seems to still be a much better fit for a Rex Ryan team. He will see plenty of carries especially when Johnson struggles. I believe Ivory will surpass Johnson as the starter around midseason and be a potential RB2.

Avoid: Eric Decker (WR)

13 Stats: 87 catches-1288 yards-11 TD (in Denver)

Why to Avoid: I believe Decker will have a solid year with the Jets, but it is very unrealistic to expect numbers that he put up with Peyton Manning under the helm. He will be Geno Smith’s clear number one receiver, but he will be lucky to reach 1,000 yards in the Jets offense.

Sleeper: Geno Smith (QB)

Why He’s A Sleeper: Geno Smith was a boom or bust QB in 2013 with more games as a bust. However, he has another offseason under his belt and a new number one receiver listed above. While I would not draft him expecting a complete turnaround, it is very possible Geno will put up solid QB2 numbers this year.

IDP to Watch: Demario Davis (LB)

13 Stats: 63 tackles-44 assists-1 sack

Why: Davis put up at 5 more combined tackles in all but 3 starts last year playing with a tremendous Jets defense. The former third round pick should continue to show improvement in 2014. It is realistic to think he will put up 80 tackles and 50 assists this year.
