Formations Fantasy Football Review: Detroit Lions Edition

staffordThe Detroit Lions have had a few of the most dynamic fantasy players in history in Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson. While Megatron should put up huge numbers again, there are other players who will do extremely well this year.
Star: Matt Stafford (QB)
13 Stats: 4647 yards, 29 TD, 19 INT
Why He’s a Star: Every year Stafford inches closer to the top of the QB rankings. It would not be a shock to see him finish as a top 3 QB. He put up great numbers last year and has added Golden Tate and rookie Eric Ebron to his arsenal. It would not be a shock to see Stafford put up 5,000 passing yards and 35 TDs.
Avoid: Reggie Bush (RB)
13 Stats: 223 carries-1,006 yards-4 TDs, 54 catches-506 yards-3 TDs
Why to Avoid: Bush put up solid numbers last year in both rushing and receiving. However, he will be seeing less time on the field due to the emergence of Joique Bell and potentially Theo Riddick. With the additions mentioned above in the passing game, it is possible his catches and yards decrease slightly as well. It wouldn’t be shocking to see only 800 total yards instead of the over 1,500 yards from last year.
Sleeper: Eric Ebron (TE)
Why He’s A Sleeper: Even though he is currently number two on the depth chart, it shouldn’t be too long before Brandon Pettigrew is unseated by the first round pick. The Lions should also use many 2 TE sets where Ebron lines up at various spots on the line of scrimmage. His numbers should increase as the year goes on.
IDP to Watch: Ezekial Ansah (DL)
13 Stats: 19 tackles-13 assists-8 sacks
Why: The first round pick in 2013 didn’t put up many tackles, but did manage 8 sacks. Ansah’s productivity should increase in his second year. Between a new scheme and more experience, it is fair to believe Ansah should reach double-digit sacks and see an improvement on tackle numbers too.
