Formation Fantasy Football Review: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tampa Bay is another team in flux. They have a QB competition, a RB coming off of a serious injury, and two big time rookies at WR and TE. All of this should make for some interesting options on your fantasy team.

Star: Vincent Jackson (WR)

13 Stats: 78 catches-1224 yards-7 TDs

Why He’s a Star: Jackson put up solid numbers in his second year with the Buccaneers even though he had double-digit drops. While Mike Glennon was adequate at times, Jackson would be better off if Josh McCown steps in under center. If Glennon is the starter, expect Jackson to be a mid-to-low-end WR2. If McCown is the QB, Jackson could be a WR1.

Avoid: Doug Martin (RB)

13 Stats: 127 carries-456 yards-TD

Why to Avoid: Martin was a fantasy star in 2012 and was expected to do even better in 2013. However, a slow start and an injury to his shoulder sent his year down in flames. He is now healthy and Tampa Bay will rely on the run more, but rookie Charles Sims will steal many carries and could be a better fit in the offense.

Sleeper: Austin Seferian-Jenkins (TE)

Why He’s A Sleeper: Everyone focuses on Eric Ebron in the rookie TE class. However, ASJ is a very talented rookie with very little in front of him on the depth chart. With defenses focusing on Vincent Jackson and fellow rookie Mike Evans, ASJ could put up solid numbers occasionally. He is worth an end of draft selection.

IDP to Watch: Mark Barron (DB)

3 Stats: 70 tackles-18 assists-2 sacks-2 INTs

Why: Lavonte David and Mason Foster are big time IDP players in Tampa Bay’s LB group, but they also have a developing star in Mark Barron. His third year should be his breakthrough year. However, he may not accumulate more than 80 solo tackles due to Tampa’s talented LBs.
