Draft Diamonds Prospect Interview: Joe Price, WR, Villanova

joe priceDraft Diamonds Prospect Interview: Joe Price, WR, Villanova

How many teams were recruiting you out of high school?

Temple, Villanova,  Boston College, Delaware, and a few others.

Where did you choose and why?

I chose Villanova because of it’s great academics and it was a big football program to me because I’m local. It was close to home. I live in Havertown, PA, which is 10 minutes from Villanova. My sister went there and so did my mother.

What were your goals for your senior year?

To help my team win a National Championship.

Have any scouts met with you, and if so what are they saying?

I haven’t heard much. I feel like I did well at Villanova’s Pro Day. A Dolphins scout called me last weekend. That’s it though.

At your position, what separates you from the others?

My toughness, route running, and ability to stretch the field. Catching the ball is second nature for me. That’s what I excel at.

Tell us what you look for when breaking down film?

I look for tendencies from the safeties pre-snap and then the corners. But after that it comes down to what I’m doing. As a wide receiver you have to have a plan for every route vs. every coverage. And that comes from all your preparation during the week.

Who was the toughest player you have ever faced?

To be honest I’m not sure. The CAA has had a lot of talented players for the 5 years while I played in our league. I respect all defensive backs the same way. I expect their best every play.

If you could compare your play to one person in the NFL who would it be?

Mike Wallace. I might not have the same 40 time as him but my junior year I averaged almost 21 yards a catch. I like stretching the field.

What was the biggest obstacle in your life you had to overcome, and how did you overcome it?

Probably breaking my back this past season. I had 2 stress fractures in my L-5 on the right and left side on my spine. I played the first 5 games with it. Rested 7 weeks and then came back for our last game and had a big game and also took off 2 months after the season and started training in mid January for our March pro-day. I feel great now.

What system fits your style of play the best?

Just want an opportunity in any kind of system. My offense in college we had to block a lot. And I’m willing to do that as well.

What is your biggest strength?

My hands.

What is your biggest weakness?

I think I need to put some weight on and get a little stronger. I am right around 202 I have played at 210 before and didn’t feel I had lost a step so I know I can still run just as well.

If I were a GM and gave you a second to sell yourself, what would you say?

I can play and I’m tough. I’m just a different breed.

Growing up, who was your role model?

My role model is my dad. He always believed in me.

Who was your favorite team and player in the NFL and why?

I grew up a big eagles fan. But ever since I felt I could play in the league I became a student of the game and watch football totally different.

If you were to have dinner with three people dead or alive who would it be?

Lebron, Ben Affleck, and Jennifer Lawrence...

With your first paycheck what would you buy?

Go out to dinner with my family.
