NFL Draft Diamonds Spotlight Interview: Donte Warren, TE, Fort Valley State

How many teams were recruiting you out of high school?
I was recruited by 2 teams Utah and UNLV

How did you come to make your college decision?

Fort Valley was my only offer

Where are you training, and what are your goals for pro day/combines?
I train on my own at various gyms, and my goal is to run 4.4 at 250 lbs and just showcase my skills

Have any scouts met with you, and if so what are they saying?
I have met only 3 scouts Cowboys, Titans, Jaguars and really only meet and greet. Cowboys had the most interest.

At your position, what separates you from the others?
Being 250 lbs at slot is very different I’m able to bully DBs and beat press coverage. But I also block very well.

Tell us what you look for when breaking down film?
I look for any weakness the defense may have, any tendencies they may have, what scheme they play and what they are doing to try and take me away.

Who was the toughest player you have ever faced?
Toughest player I faced has to be going against Deron Furr everyday in practice because he played SS and I played slot or TE, and man he’s physical. We had our battles and I won some, he won some, but I love playing against him.

If you could compare your play to one person in the NFL who would it be?
I would have to compare myself to Anquan Boldin or Michael Robinson. Boldin because he is a bigger receiver doesn’t separate well buy makes tough catches and Michael Robinson because he is a great blocked for Beast Mode and to be honest I think I’m going to end up playing fullback in the league cuz of my size but I have great hands which is a plus.

What was the biggest obstacle in your life you had to overcome, and how did you overcome it?
Biggest obstacle had to be being overlooked by all D1 football teams, and I dealt with it by just working with what god gave me.

What system fits your style of play the best?
I can play in any scheme, but if I had to pick one I would say Sean Payton and New Orleans Saints scheme they like to attack defenses vertically down the field.

What is your biggest strength?
Biggest strength is my 250 lb body at slot receiver, because I can manhandle defensive backs, and have great hands..I would say at the top of this class.

What is your biggest weakness?
Weakness would be route running and sometimes making mental mistakes

If I were a GM and gave you a minute to sell yourself, what would you say?

I am going to be the consumate professional for your organization, I love football and will dedicate myself to this team, I’m not selfish I have a team first mentality.

Growing up, who was your role model?
Role Model was my dad because he busts his butt everyday to take care of me and my brothers and even though he was tired from working long shifts still made sure we were at practice on time and ready to go.

Who was your favorite team and player in the NFL and why?
Troy Polamalu is my favorite player because he plays hard every snap but I like his personality off the field a devoted Christian who is a family man. I would love to meet Troy Polamalu.

If you were to have dinner with three people dead or alive who would it be?
John F Kennedy, Tupac Shakur, and Carlos Slim.

What would you buy with your first NFL paycheck?
I would donate to my fiances god parents foundation for stopping prostitution. She loves her godparents dearly.
