Draft Diamonds Prospect Interview: Devin Street, WR, Pittsburgh 

How many teams were recruiting you out of high school?

I was recruited by about 15 schools however only had 4 offers. 

Where did you choose and why?

Pitt because of the coaching staff and how they embraced me as a player and a person. The rich history behind Pitt and being labeled Wide Receiver U after guys like Lateef Grimm, Larry Fitzgerald and Antonio Bryant.  I wanted to be part of that and put myself in the conversation with greats like that.  I also felt I had the chance to play early as a redshirt freshman which I did and benefit from observing a great organization like the Pittsburgh Steelers which our facility was right next to. 

What were your goals for your senior year?

First win and ACC title as a team then become Pitt’s all time leading receiver as a Team Captain.

Have any scouts met with you, and if so what are they saying?

Yes met with a lot of scouts they value my ability to run routes my condition and my football IQ they just want to see me bulk up and get stronger. Which I intend to do.

At your position, what separates you from the others?

First I think it’s my ability to get open and understanding the position.  I’ve really tried to become a smart player and detailed in my routes and preparation.  I also feel I’m consistent catching the ball and moving the chains as well as making those explosive plays down field.

Tell us what you look for when breaking down film?

A lot! I take everything into consideration, technique, tendencies, how a tam responds to adversity what type of defensive scheme they like to run etc.  I believe preparation is key going into a game. Possibly one of the biggest things that can really propel myself and a team into success but also the will to adapt. 

Who was the toughest player you have ever faced?

Antone Exum from Virginia Tech possibly one of the most underrated players in this years draft.

If you could compare your play to one person in the NFL who would it be?

Watching this year I think I’d compare myself to a Marvin Jones same build and same playing style.

What was the biggest obstacle in your life you had to overcome, and how did you overcome it?

Just being doubted because of my weight and people saying I would be able to be successful in such a physical sport like football.

What system fits your style of play the best? 

I’ve played in mostly a pro style offense and had success but I also played in a spread.  I feel I’m versatile enough to play on the outside in a pro style but also run those quick to intermediate routes in a spread.

What is your biggest strength? 

My ability to run routes, get open and tracking the ball.  Knowing leverage tempo of routes and sight adjustments pre snap.

What is your biggest weakness? 

My weight. I believe in need to put on 10-15 pounds to really elevate my game.

If I were a GM and gave you a second to sell yourself, what would you say? 

I’ll be the most competitive guy out there and will come in and out work everyone.  I think I can solidify myself as a leader after gaining the respect of my teammates and help bring wins to an organization.  I’m versatile and can bring a different dimension to a team.  I’ve never been the one to get complacent and just settle.  Whatever a teams wants me to do I will do it. 

Growing up, who was your role model?

My father he was a workaholic and always did his best to provide for his family.

Who was your favorite team and player in the NFL and why?

Never had a favorite team. I was always just a fan of the game and my favorite player was Chad Johnson because of his quick feet and ability to run routes.  

What was the most tragic event that ever happened in your life and how did you overcome it? 

My parents getting a divorce and family splitting apart.  I had to man up for my brother and be a great role model for him.

If you were to have dinner with three people dead or alive who would it be? 

Solomon Northup, Muhammad Ali, Ray Kurzweil 

With your first paycheck what would you buy? 

A ford F-150 pickup truck nothing too fancy or expensive just a nice pickup.
