Could the Packers trade TE D.J. Williams to the Patriots for a draft pick?

Yesterday ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported on NFL Insiders that the Patriots are “putting out feelers” for available tight ends. There are several good tight ends that could be traded for such as Jacob Tamme, Clay Harbor, and Tony Moeaki, but could the Packers trade the New England Patriots one of Ryan Mallett’s favorite targets for a draft pick?

The Patriots’ interest in tight ends could have to do with Rob Gronkowski’s (back surgery) injury, but who knows. Yesterday the news came out of Green Bay that tight end D.J. Williams could be released and is definitely on the roster bubble.  So here is my take, why not try to get something for the former 5th round draft pick?

Tom Brady loves his tight end and let’s be honest, it has not been pretty so far without Aaron Hernandez and Gronk.  Zach Sudfeld the undrafted free agent from Nevada looked to be on the top of the depth chart until his fumble last night in the Lions game.  That fumble had Coach Belichick hot, and he pulled him and sat him on the bench.  I think that could be the straw that broke the camel’s back.

I know when Coach B is not happy, the Patriots will try to get a player that fits their mold.  D.J. Williams is a very athletic player who has great hands and could come in and learn the offense quickly.  This could be a match made in heaven…..
