Could Maurice Jones Drew help the Dolphins get over the hump?

The Jaguars are going to let running back Maurice Jones-Drew test the market in free agency and then decide whether to try to re-sign the second-leading rusher in franchise history. So my question is could the Miami Dolphins be a player for MJD?

General manager David Caldwell said Tuesday he didn’t envision re-signing Jones-Drew, who has rushed for 8,071 yards and holds the franchise record with 81 touchdowns in eight seasons, before free agency beings in March. Caldwell also said he’ll wait for Jones-Drew to get an offer from another team, then decide whether to match it.

While the Dolphins have Lamar Miller and Daniel Thomas, neither have been that impressive in Miami.  The Dolphins really need someone who can pick up a first down.  This year Lamar Miller rushed for 709 yards on 177 carries and was only able to get into the end zone twice.  Daniel Thomas on the other hand rushed the ball 109 times for 406 yards and had 4 touchdowns.  I don’t know if Maurice Jones is the worst option at this point, but the Dolphins need to do something in their running game.

Leaving the ball in Ryan Tannehill’s hands too long is causing problems.  He has a case of the “picks” when he is leaned on to lead the team to victory.  Tannehill is often rushed quite a bit, but honestly could MJD who is coming off his worst year in his career help the Phins?
