Georgia defensive lineman Jalen Carter is going to be an interesting player to interview this week at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Georgia defensive lineman Jalen Carter is going to be an interesting player to interview this week at the NFL Scouting Combine. According to reports coming out now from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Carter lied to police and was in fact at the crash where his teammate was killed.

This week Carter will be able to tell NFL teams his side of the story. The Georgia defensive lineman is considered one of the top players in this year’s NFL draft, but he will not participate in the workout portion of this week’s scouring combine but will conduct interviews with teams and undergo a physical, per reports.

NFL teams are going to want to know why Carter lied about not being at the scene.

Carter initially told police he was more than a mile away from the accident when it happened, but later said he was close enough to the car to see its taillights.

The police reports are pretty telling. Atlanta Journal-Constitution reviewed the documents where Carter left the scene of the accident before any emergency personnel and officers showed up. He returned 90 minutes later, to tell police he was just traveling alongside the other car, whose speedometer stuck on impact at 83 MPH. That is DOUBLE the speed limit.

Carter denied racing the other car per the report.

Athens police said “excessive speed” was a contributing factor in the fatal crash after reconstructing the accident scene. At the time, the accident was labeled a single-car crash. Two other vehicles were present and left the scene according to police. Both were driven by UGA football players.

“Police had reason to suspect almost from the moment of the crash that other cars had been at the scene, and they soon learned at least two of those vehicles were driven by Georgia football players,”

“Seeking evidence of possible racing, officers have obtained surveillance video from city-owned cameras along the route the players took out of downtown Athens. They also obtained footage from at least one business owner.”

If Carter was in fact racing with his teammates could this come back to him? Devin Willock died on the scene as a result of his injuries. Chandler LeCroy died at the local hospital.

Either way, there is more happening here than we are being told. NFL teams are going to want to know why the potential top 5 pick lied to police.
