Did Florida State just get called out for Tampering by former #1 recruit Travis Hunter?
Pittman’s Pocket: HBCU recruiting has improved, will more Juniors declare from HBCU schools in the future

The NFL has a problem with owning the fact they have less interest in the HBCU football community. I did some research. The NFL lacks the emphasis of scouting HBCU football, by recruiting as well, with seemingly the lack of talent going to HBCU football programs.

Robert Herman “Stonewall” Jackson was the first HBCU player drafted out of North Carolina A&T in 1950.

A lot has happened since Jackson was drafted. Now HBCU players even have the chance of being drafted as a true junior, which we have never really seen.

Andrew Body, Kendall Bohler, and Johnny Chaney Jr, are three players I feel can make that into an interesting conversation this year. We all know that if Travis Hunter would have stayed at Jackson State he would not have waited until his senior year to leave school. He would likely do three years and jet to the NFL.

HBCU’s recruiting has improved dramatically, and since 2019 has made a shift in recruiting better talent. When has HBCU’s had Junior’s draft eligible for any year draft? Yes, there are players that are redshirt juniors declaring but you rarely see a true junior declare.

Which dates back February 8th, 1936. the narrative will change very soon, from the old language of waiting for HBCU’s Football talent to be seen and over scouted by the end of their senior year. Which the NFL created the HBCU LEGACY COMBINE & BOWL GAME, in which I feel Draft Eligible Juniors from HBCU’s should be able to participate. The NFL Scouting Combine allows players to participate as juniors if they declare, but no All-Star Game is allowed to have a true junior. With more leagues like the XFL, USFL, CFL and NFL all recruiting talent, I feel the NFL should change their guidelines.

HBCU’s Now have US Army All Americans and Under Armor players, now attending as much like those 132 D1 schools. The HBCU football recruiting of 2019 propelled FCS recruiting to actually compete with D1 recruiting.

We’re now in 2023. Juniors being Draft eligible from HBCU football programs is right around the corner. If Shedeur Sanders wouldn’t have left for Colorado along with Travis Hunter we would have seen it sooner.

Players will decide to leave early after playing at a high level. Recruiting is at an All-Time high level with very, very low budgets.
