Today is the DAY!!! At 1:00 pm, the USFL College Draft will kick-off!

The USFL College Draft kicks off in in a little more than an hour, and this will basically allow teams to claim the rights of players that are currently playing in the NFL. The pool is HUGE to pick from, but not all the picks will eventually play in the USFL.

The USFL is ready for their second season and they are going to draft college players, and only college players. This is great because not everyone is going to get a true shot in the NFL. The USFL will be getting the rights of the players for that specific team.

Daryl Johnston the USFL President had this to say about the draft:

“We are building the USFL for long-term success and our first-ever College Draft demonstrates our clear focus on building winning teams for Season Two, Season Three and beyond,” USFL Executive Vice President of Football Operations Daryl Johnston said in a statement released by the league. “The USFL will continue to search for and evaluate the best players to join our league. We are excited to see who the next KaVontae Turpin will be to turn an opportunity with the USFL into a springboard for success in the NFL.”

The USFL College Draft is very similar to the NFL Draft. It will be a fixed order that follows the inverse order of standing from the 2022 season.

The first pick however will be Michigan Panthers. The Panthers beat the Pittsburgh Maulers for the first pick of the draft back in week 10 of last season.

2023 USFL College Draft order

Round 1 (overall pick number)

  1. Michigan Panthers
  2. Pittsburgh Maulers
  3. Houston Gamblers
  4. Memphis Showboats
  5. New Orleans Breakers
  6. Philadelphia Stars
  7. Birmingham Stallions
  8. New Jersey Generals*

* The Generals will not have a pick in the first round of the 2023 USFL Draft, as they have been penalized for violating the USFL’s offseason roster management rules.

New Jersey will finish this draft with 8 draft picks still though. They just lose their first round pick and pick up a compensatory pick at the end of Round 10 to finish off the draft. So there will be a total of 80 players selected.
