Player Bio

Hasson Hall began his journey to the 2023 NFL Draft as a track star and three-star football recruit at Maynard Jackson High School in Atlanta, Georgia.

On the track, Hall set multiple Jackson High School records in the 100m (10.63), 200m (21.52), and 4×200 relay (1:32.67). Hall’s prowess as a sprinter helped him develop into one of Georgia’s most dynamic skill position players in the 2018 recruiting class.

As a senior in 2017, Hall was an impactful two-way player for the Jackson football program. In his final high school season, Hall recorded 93 carries, 728 yards, and five touchdowns, averaging 7.8 yards per carry and adding five receptions and 83 receiving yards. During Week Ten of the 2017 season, Hall pledged his commitment to the University of Louisville, later signing his letter of intent to join the Cardinals’ 2018 recruiting class.

In his true freshman season in 2018, Hall received tons of playing time as a rotational running back and kick return specialist. As a true freshman, Hall appeared in all 12 games, including five starts, and finished the season with 70 carries, 303 yards, and three touchdowns, plus an additional 12 receptions and 99 receiving yards. Hall also returned 34 kicks for 818 return yards and one touchdown, placing him 4th in total kick return yards in the FBS.

Hall took a big step in his development as a sophomore season in 2019. Playing in all 13 games, including one start, Hall accumulated 108 carries, 501 yards, and five touchdowns with five receptions and 31 receiving yards. Hall had another stellar season as a return specialist, returning 26 kicks for 793 yards and one touchdown. Hall recorded 30.5 yards per return, which ranked him 4th amongst all FBS kick returners. After the season, Hall earned Second-Team All-ACC all-purpose honors and Third-Team recognition as a return specialist.

Despite only playing eight games during the 2020 season, Hall made the best of his opportunities. As a junior, Hall had 54 carries for 223 yards and two touchdowns and returned 18 kicks for 380 yards, which moved him into 4th place for most kick return yards in program history

In his fourth and final season at Louisville, Hall only carried the ball 38 times – the fewest carries in a single season during his time with the Cardinals. Still, Hall totaled 272 rushing yards, one rushing touchdown, and averaged 7.2 yards per carry while adding 376 kick return yards on 17 attempts.

During his time at Louisville, Hall recorded 270 carries, 1,299 rushing yards, 11 touchdowns, 22 receptions, 175 receiving yards, 101 kick returns, and 2,367 kick return yards.

Hall finished his Louisville career with the second-most kick return yards in school history.

With one year of eligibility remaining, Hall entered the transfer portal during the 2022 offseason. On January 11th, Hall announced his decision to return to Atlanta and continue his football career at Georgia Tech.

In his lone season at Georgia Tech, Hall was a bright spot in a tumultuous year for the Yellow Jackets. After a 1-3 start, Head Coach Geoff Collins was relieved of his duties, paving the way for Georgia Tech Offensive Line Coach Brent Key to take over as the Yellow Jackets’ interim Head Coach. In Key’s first game at the helm, Hall had the best performance of his career, totaling 20 carries and 157 rushing yards in an upset victory over the 24th-ranked Pittsburgh Panthers. In a 5-7 season, Hall posted 116 carries, 521 rushing yards, one rushing touchdown, 28 receptions, 165 receiving yards, nine kick returns, and 214 kick return yards. 

Key led Georgia Tech in all-purpose yards and finished third amongst ACC running backs in total receptions on the season.

Hassan Hall Scouting Report

Hassan Hall is a balanced runner with great top-end speed and instincts but lacks the size and quickness to be an every-down back at the NFL level.

Hall is an intelligent, instinctual, and patient ball carrier who possesses advanced back-cut vision and presses gaps effectively to allow more time for his blocks to set up. Paired with his vision and instincts, Hall’s sudden burst and straight-line speed allow him to explode through a seam and eat up large chunks of yardage in the open field.

Hall – who ran a 21.5 200m dash in high school – has proven to have excellent breakaway speed with the ball in his hands, which explains his intriguing value as a kick return specialist at the next level. During his time at Louisville, Hall was one of the most dangerous kick returners in the nation, accumulating over 2,000 and two touchdowns in four seasons as the Cardinals’ primary kick return specialist.

To go along with his impressive running and kick return abilities, Hall is a productive asset in the passing game. With strong ball skills and a willingness to contribute as a pass catcher, Hall steadily improved his receiving output year after year. In his final collegiate season at Georgia Tech, Hall finished second on the team in receptions and 33rd in receptions amongst FBS running backs during the 2022 season.

One of Hall’s best qualities in his football profile is his ball security. Hall has an innate ability to protect the ball amongst contact and did not give away a single fumble throughout his five-year college career.

Due to Hall’s impressive overall speed and quality burst, he is a more efficient outside runner than he is within the trenches but also makes an impact inside the tackles. Hall, who plays with great pad level and physicality as a runner, boasts a nice blend of speed and power, making him a difficult assignment for defenders to track down on the edge. Additionally, Hall has high contact courage, runs through arm tackles, and keeps his legs driving on first contact, allowing him to accumulate yards after contact on a regular basis.

Hall is an above-average pass blocker who plays with good leverage and toughness at the point of attack. Hall will not hesitate to step up as a pass protector and is willing to drop his pads and chop down blitzing linebackers with his cut blocks. Hall is not the most productive runner blocker but can be a serviceable lead blocker for quarterbacks on designed runs or broken plays.

Although he never rushed for more than 530 yards in a single season during his college career, there are not many running backs in the 2023 NFL Draft Class with a more complete skill set than Hassan Hall. Hall is a smart, tough, and dynamic ball carrier, a reliable pass catcher, a willing pass blocker, and an explosive weapon in the kick return game. Hall offers compelling value for an NFL franchise looking for a new return specialist or depth at the running back position at the back end of the draft.
